This tower dates back to the year 1487. Towards the end of the Kalverstraat the socalled Regulierspoort ( a gate) was to be found. It was lost by fire in 1618. Only the lower part of the right-hand tower was saved. Hendrik de Keyser gave it an elegant pinnacle in 1619. In 1672, the money, which so far had been minted in Utrecht was coined in this tower. Since then the tower has been known as the Mint. The structure was dismantled in 1885 and rebuilt in Neo-renaissance style by the architect W. Springer.
