The people of Florence were perplexed in 1417, concerning their cathedral, because they didn'tknow how to complete the vault. Like all wise and careful people, they chose the most foolish scheme: an enormous dome with a double calotte by Brunelleschi, a real balancing miracle! This surprising pink and green dome, this fine bell tower conceived by Giotto and this babtistery of marble and gold for which the exiled Dante yearned, is one of the first masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance in the heart of Florence.
